Hello, Friends!
I’m so happy you’re here and joining me for another episode of i hope it’s a ghost. This one’s a continuation of a FREE episode I posted a few months ago called, The Murder Mirror.
In The Murder Mirror, I write about walking into a building called the Big House, where I felt immediately drawn to a mirror. I later found that the mirror out originally belonged to a brutally murdered family.
I’m not going to deny it. There’s a strange energy to The Big House, and it doesn’t end with the Murder Mirror . . .
Fort Langley - A Brief Recap
I won’t go into too much detail about Fort Langley in this episode, as I covered its humble beginnings in depth in The Murder Mirror.
But for those of you interested in a bite-sized bit of history:
In 1827 the fort served as a designated fur trading post run by the Hudson’s Bay Company. The traders and Kwantlen First Nations built a strong relationship, and trade flourished for both sides.
However, the British feared that the Americans would try and claim valuable resources.
The British claimed the land as part of the Colony of British Columbia even though it belonged to the Kwantlen people.
Today, Fort Langley is a national historical site that you can visit most days of the year.
Fort Langley’s Fault Line
I learned during my visit back in April that a massive fault line runs through the middle of the fort as it exists today.
And where does that fault line run straight through?
The Big House. (Which, of course, is where I spotted the famous Murder Mirror.)
It’s also where visitors (like me) and employees who didn’t know what they were stepping into also felt or saw something unexplainable.
The Little Boy in the Big House
One of the spirits most often seen in the Big House is that of a little boy dressed in period clothing. I believe in this sighting due to the sheer number of people who have seen this child over the years.
Of the feedback Fort Langley gets the most, the sighting of this spirit is one of the most difficult to explain.
For example, visitor feedback will range from something like, “Wow! What a fantastic idea, hiring a young boy to greet visitors at the Big House!” to “It’s unsafe to allow your unsupervised child actors to play with visiting children.”
Fort Langley doesn’t hire child actors. Nor do they allow children to enter the fort unsupervised.
Even the hired (adult) actors, many of them skeptics, have come upon this boy as they start their shift for the day. And one man still struggles to explain his own experience.
One day he unlocked the front door of the Big House to find a boy cowering in a corner. The man looked away for a moment, and when he looked back, the boy had disappeared.
The Bedrooms
In addition to the little boy, many people say they’re met with heavy energy as they enter the Big House. It seems that the energy primarily radiates from the two bedrooms.
Visitors complain of feeling unwell when standing in or near the doorway of either bedroom.
Some of those who ventured inside immediately passed out.
Others reported feeling sick and nauseous.
A select few, especially women, report that they’ve been aggressively shoved.
Fort Langley’s Outer Wall
Here’s another creepy example of paranormal activity at Fort Langley.
There’s a narrow path that runs along the Eastern wall. People often report seeing a strange black mass floating in this area.
No one can explain how the mass forms, just that it appears alongside a deep, primal feeling of fear.
It’s recommended to stay away from this area of the fort. Or, you can always check it out at your own risk.
The Truth
Here’s the thing. I definitely felt drawn to the Murder Mirror inside the Big House. However, I didn’t feel any other energy (heavy or light) while walking through the rest of the building.
We could argue that my experience was the result of coincidence.
What gets me, though, is that so many people (visitors and actors) have consistently reported seeing the same spirit or experiencing the same type of physical reactions over many years.
Can we brush aside that many accounts? Or is it possible that the fault line that runs through Fort Langley means the area is primed for some serious ghostly activity?
